(Re)storying Okinawa invites community members to submit their stories and contribute to the project of (re)storying our islands from an Okinawan perspective using munugatai (Uchinaaguchi: storytelling). If you or someone you know has had an experience related to military waste (UXOs, PFAS, scrap metal, etc.), and you want to share your story, please fill out the form below.
We are especially interested in submissions from Okinawans living in Okinawa or the diaspora. You can write in English, Japanese, Uchinaaguchi, or any other language—whichever you prefer! We will add your story to the map as a living organism of Okinawan relations to land.
Ethics Information Statement: We value ethical engagement with your story. If at any time you wish to withdraw your submission, please email us directly so that we can remove or modify the information. We recognize and respect your right to identification, information autonomy, description of experience or object, and to challenge/revise/respond to map content. Please contact mapokinawa1@gmail.com for inquiries.
